Eco-Friendly Products

Our great friend Jason has always been a good recycler...he introduced it to Bob and I, and well Bob has kinda gone crazy with it. We have a bag for different kinda of products so he can take them to where they need to be taken in order to make sure they aren't in our landfills...honestly, at first I was like...uhhhh this is annoying, but I actually think it is a good thing...I mean this is our Earth and we should take care of it. So, we have tried to do a lot of things that are eco-friendly...however, the price to do these things are crazy. I like to be eco-friendly, but at the risk of going broke??? I dont know about that. It honeslty doesnt cost anymore to make the products, but since it is something new everyone is doing, well they can charge you like crazy.

So, I am researching diapers and wipes. We can do the whole clothe diaper thing, but Bob said that is where he would draw the line because he doesn't want to clean them...ha ha! So, I see they sell eco-friendly diapers that are made of different products...why cant all diapers and wipes be like this? And why cant the government give tax breaks to companies who are eco-friendly...it makes since...so come on!!!! Anyways, I would like to use the eco-friendly diapers, but they are kinda expensive...those of you mommies out there...what diapers do you use? What about wipes?

I decided to register for the Dr. Brown bottles. Although they have a lot of peices to them, the reviews were all awesome, and they did have wide neck so they can hook up to a breast pump. Now I have to decide on a breast pump...I guess I really dont know much about it all...so I need to have some more information on it. I dont even know if I will do it for that long, so we will see. Other than that...I think I have registered for everything that I need. We are at Target and Babies R Us, and Pottery Barn Kids. Bob is starting on the nursery this week, and the bed and dresser will be ordered this week as well. The bedding has already been ordered and the quilt should be here this week...yeah! So, now we just need to pray to keep Brady growing healthy inside of me...and that I have no more problems...September needs to be here FAST!!! Then once he is here...everything can slow down :)

I totally know where you're coming from. I really considered cloth diapers for Lincoln, but I get such good deals on things that I just couldn't pay that much for cloth when I could get disposable for cheap! I NEVER pay more than 3.00 for a pack of diapers (we only use pampers), and I've "never" realy paid for wipes. If I have it's been pennies. So, I figure maybe there are other eco-friendly things I can do that won't break the bank (like recycling...well, we don't do that either yet because we're in an apt. and don't have the room, but we will eventually:))

I think I saw Dr. brown's bottles on Amazon for CHEAP (like $8 for 3)...you should check that out. I've heard great reviews, but we didn't own bottles since both kids never took one. Hope that helps a little bit. Glad things are going well for you (and Bradyn).

I'm excited to see what you guys have picked out and by the way I LOVE Pottery Barn Kids :). I wish we had one around here!

I once saw something about cloth diapers vs. regular diapers, and it pointed out the fact that you have to wash the cloth diapers frequently, hence using more water.

I know my sister had a lot of luck with Pampers. The Huggies ones she used (at least early on) tended to leak more and weren't as nice.

I have always used Pampers diapers... we used the Pampers Swaddlers when she was newborn and then eventually switched to the Pampers Baby Dry because they are cheaper. I found that the Huggies diapers seemed to leak.

We have a membership at BJ's. Their prices are great and you can buy in bulk. We get over 200 diapers for about $39. As you go up in size you get less diapers per box. I also buy wipes there, but I prefer the Huggies wipes. The Pampers ones I put on my registry seemed dry compared to the Huggies. Once I used them up, I switched. I think you get about 720 wipes for about $15. The yearly membership there is worth the discount on diapers and wipes (and gas too!)

I used the Medela breast pump and I loved it. I pumped at school for almost the entire school year. I liked the accessories that go with it. They sell the bottles that attach. I refrigerated some of the milk and froze the rest in the storage bags. I have some tips for you if you end up breastfeeding and needing to store milk.
